Baton Rouge police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man on Madison Avenue late Monday.

Calvin Chrisentary, 21, 6424 Underwood St., Baton Rouge, was shot in the 5000 block of Madison Avenue shortly before 8:45 p.m., police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Chrisentary was shot in the back with a handgun.

A neighbor called 911 after hearing a gunshot and looking outside to find Chrisentary lying in the road, calling for help, McKneely said.

Police initially did not suspect the wound to be life-threatening, but when Chrisentary arrived at the hospital, his condition took a turn for the worse and he died, McKneely said.

Police do not have a motive or suspect in the shooting.
