Nicholls State University in Thibodaux is set to begin offering seven degree programs this spring through the university’s new Nicholls Online division.

Students will be able to earn bachelor’s degrees in English, general studies, history, nursing, sociology and in general family and consumer sciences.

Students seeking a master’s degree can enroll in the online education leadership program with the educational technology concentration.

Online courses will be taught in eight-week sessions offering students who take three courses per session the ability to earn a bachelor’s degree in three years, Nicholls spokeswoman Renee Piper said in a news release.

Nicholls online is designed to provide a flexible alternative to people who have difficulty attending on-campus classes, the release said.

The university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Laynie Barrilleaux, said he hopes Nicholls Online will attract many of the 3,000 students in the surrounding area who started college but did not earn a degree.
