Both East Baton Rouge Parish schools and Catholic Schools in the Baton Rouge Diocese will close Thursday, according to district officials.
Thursday is the third consecutive day the Catholic Schools and East Baton Rouge school system, the second largest in Louisiana, have remain closed.
The Catholic school system announced the closure on its website.
In a late Wednesday afternoon announcement, Keith Bromery, spokesman for the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, cited the “continued dangers posed by accumulations of ice on area roadways and sidewalks” for continuing to keep the schools closed.
Bromery said that all school system sponsored activities, including prekindergarten registration, sports practices, games and other events planned for Thursday are canceled as well.
The school system has sent automated telephone calls to parents and will post the information on its website.
