The state has revoked the license of a child care center in Baker, officials said Friday.
State Department of Education officials said they took the action because during a state inspection on July 15, a woman posing as the director of the facility, Mini Miracles Child Care and Learning Center, 3615 Groom Road, used a fraudulent driver’s license to try to convince authorities.
The impostor, identified as Alica Monique Robinson, 1070 Sunshine Drive, Baker, claimed to be Bertha Morgan, who is the director for Mini Miracles, the agency said.
Morgan is Robinson’s mother, officials said.
The state Department of Education said Robinson was arrested on Wednesday by State Police and booked for identity theft and forgery.
The center, which was licensed for 45 children, was also cited for 18 deficiencies, including the lack of criminal background checks for all employees.
Mini Miracles failed to meet child/staff ratio requirements at all times, state officials said.
In addition, the center had no record of Robinson, 39, working for the facility.
“We won’t tolerate this kind of deceit,” state Superintendent of Education John White said in a prepared statement.
Neither Morgan nor other officials of the center could be reached for comment.
Officials of the center have 15 days to appeal the revocation.
The revocation means Mini Miracles is ineligible for subsidies for child care sites that serve low-income families.
The action is the third of its kind in recent days.
Earlier this month, the state revoked the license of Our Blessings Christian Daycare Learning Center, 9835 Old Hammond Highway, as well as a day care center in Bossier City.
Child care centers have gotten heightened attention after the June death of a 22-month-old who was left unattended in the care of an unlicensed day care center in Baton Rouge.
Since Oct. 1, the state Department of Education has handled license duties formerly done by the state Department of Children and Family Services.
