An after-school fight at McKinley High School in the school parking lot Friday afternoon ended up with one student being taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services says it was contacted at 2:32 p.m. about the fight and possible injuries and subsequently transported one person.
Adonica Duggan, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge school system, said four students were involved in the fight which took place after school let out at 2:25 p.m. and teachers contacted law enforcement for assistance. No weapons were involved in the fight, she said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, one student was transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries,” Duggan said.
Baton Rouge Police were alerted to the fight at 2:48 p.m. but the fight was already over when they arrived five minutes later, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a spokesman for Baton Rouge Police.
McKneely said the initial report was that students from another high school came to McKinley to participate in the fight, but police are still investigating to see what actually happened.
“At least one of the individuals involved was not a student,” Duggan said.
