The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted Wednesday to revoke the teaching certificate of former Destrehan High School teacher Shelley Dufresne.
The full board took the action without comment, as a committee had on Tuesday.
Dufresne has admitted to having sex with a 16-year-old student. She pleaded guilty in April to one count of misdemeanor obscenity.
An attorney for Dufresne has asked a court in St. Charles Parish to allow that to be changed to a count of felony obscenity.
The ex-teacher received a deferred sentence of three years in prison, three years of active probation and a $1,000 fine.
The punishment has sparked controversy from critics who called it too lenient.
Dufresne could still face charges in Jefferson Parish for an alleged three-way sexual encounter with the same student and a fellow female teacher.
That incident was alleged to have happened in Kenner after a Destrehan High football game in September.
