The newly named Northshore Technical Community College is keeping its old leader.

William Wainwright, regional director of the former Northshore Technical College and its branch campuses, will lead the college as it expands into offering community college services as well.

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors approved the promotion Wednesday.

Wainwright will receive an annual pay package of $154,500, which represents a roughly $28,000 pay increase.

He also will receive a $10,000 additional pay raise if he completes a doctoral degree within two years. He is working on the degree.

Wainwright’s base pay is $127,000, but it includes annual allowances for housing, vehicles and civic organizations.

Senate Bill 69 by Senate Education Chairman Ben Nevers, D-Bogalusa, that was approved in June formally created the Northshore Technical Community College.

Such community college services in the growing Northshore region of Lake Ponchartrain have been identified by state education leaders as one of the state’s largest higher education gaps.

The LCTCS Board also authorized the transfer of the Slidell campus from Delgado Community College to the newly named NTCC.
