Students at Baton Rouge Community College and Southern University can now transfer between the schools seamlessly after the signing Thursday of a new partnership called “Bears 2 Jaguars.”
During a ceremony held at Southern, BRCC Chancellor Andrea Lewis Miller and Flandus Mclinton, Southern’s acting chancellor, signed the Memorandum of Understanding .
The “Bears 2 Jaguars” agreement will allow students who complete associate degrees at BRCC in political science, psychology, history, criminal justice, business, or military science can be admitted to Southern with junior status.
Students in the “Bears 2 Jaguars” program gain access to many of Southern’s resources, such as the library. Students also will have parking privileges, and will be allowed entrance into certain sporting events.
“It makes perfect sense for our institutions to come together to make sure our students are furthering their education by receiving their bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and Ph.D.’s,” said Miller. “This is just the beginning, and we intend to expand on what we have started here today.”
“We know this is an important start in the right direction,” said McClinton. “The sky’s the limit with what we can do with this program.”
