Gov. John Bel Edwards’ education aide has resigned her post and returned to the staff of the state Senate.

Jeanne Johnston, who was announced as the governor’s senior education policy adviser in early January, is a 30-year veteran on education issues.

She was previously Chief Legislative Researcher and primary staff for the Senate Education Committee, where she was known for her expertise on both school and legislative issues.

Before that she was Legislative Liaison and Director of Special Projects for the state Department of Education.

Johnston’s salary was $120,000 per year on the governor’s staff.
