Local Schools for Local Children, a nonprofit group formed in 2011 to support the formation of a new southeast Baton Rouge public school district, is holding a public meeting Tuesday night to update residents about plans to try a second time to create this breakaway district.
The meeting is taking place at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 5805 Jones Creek Road, and starts at 7 p.m.
Last year, a proposed constitutional amendment sponsored by Sen. Bodi White, R-Central, came within four votes of passing in the Louisiana House of Representatives, a vote that would have prompted a public referendum on the idea.
The district proposed last year included nine schools, including Woodlawn High School, and followed I-10 and I-12 from the split to the parish line.
All of the schools are part of the East Baton Rouge Parish school system.
