School barely began Monday morning before Glen Oaks High School students were dismissed for the day after a nearby water main broke, leaving the school without water, said a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish school system.
The call to close school was made about 8:30 a.m., a little over an hour after students at the north Baton Rouge high school arrived for the day, and buses began taking students home about 9:30 a.m., said Adonica Duggan, communications director for the school system.
Duggan said the broken main was fixed by early afternoon and classes will resume Tuesday as normal. She said the main’s failure was not caused by heavy weekend rains.
Glens Oaks High School, 6650 Cedar Grove Drive, has more than 600 students enrolled.
