Louisiana Democrat delegiation _lowres

Louisiana's delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Cleveland casts its vote in the presidential nomination roll call on Tuesday, July 26. Members of the delegation included state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, former U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, among others visible in the crowd.

After being forced to re-schedule the past two years because of the threat of severe weather, Louisiana Democrats will not plan their largest annual fundraiser during hurricane season in New Orleans this year.

The 2018 True Blue Gala will be held May 18 in Baton Rouge, according to an event notice on the party's website.

"In the last TWO years, we’ve faced flooding and a hurricane that forced us to push our dinner to later in the year," the party writes of the change. "Well, this year we are not tempting Mother Nature again!"

The 2016 event, which was formally known as the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner but changed last year to remove the slave-owning former presidents' names, had to be rescheduled because of severe weather as historic floods swept Louisiana.

2017's True Blue Gala was rescheduled as New Orleans was initially threatened by Hurricane Harvey. The event went on at its rescheduled date, during Hurricane Nate.

The new date and location puts the True Blue Gala during the Louisiana Legislature's 2018 session. The party will be "honoring our legislative heroes" during the event.

True Blue Gala "super early bird tickets" available now range in cost from $125 apiece to $4,500 for a VIP table of 10.
