Gov. Bobby Jindal issued an emergency order that would allow for the uninterrupted delivery of propane and heating fuels during the “extreme cold temperatures” expected Thursday and Friday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Louisiana and Texas, forecasting an arctic cold front rapidly moving south through the area Thursday afternoon bringing with it an increased chance for freezing rain turning to sleet or snow after midnight. The Weather Service warns of ice accumulation on bridges and overpasses
Jindal authorized state agencies “to take appropriate actions to ensure these products can be delivered in Louisiana and other states.”
Executive Proclamation No. 8 for 2014, which was signed Wednesday, gives the governor emergency powers to deal with disasters under the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act.
