The state Department of Revenue warned shoppers ahead of Black Friday that they need to pay taxes on Internet purchases.
“Online does not mean tax-free,” the tax collection agency said in a press release.
At issue is Louisiana’s consumer use tax which is supposed to be paid on purchases made online, with catalogs or through TV shopping networks. The rate is 8 percent.
The tax can be reported on state individual income tax returns or through a consumer use tax return at www.revenue.louisiana.gov/taxforms.
