Baton Rouge attorney James Bullman has announced a run for one of East Baton Rouge Parish’s seats in the Louisiana House.

State Rep. Erich Ponti, R-Baton Rouge, isn’t seeking re-election to represent District 69.

“The people of this district deserve a representative who will stand up and fight for them,” said Democrat Bullman in a statement released through the state Democratic Party. “We are all affected by decisions that are made in our state government, whether it’s on the economy or higher education. I understand how these decisions impact my friends, my neighbors and members of the business community. In the coming weeks, I hope to earn the privilege of serving the people of District 69 in the Legislature.”

Metro Councilman Ryan Heck is expected to announce his own run for the seat on June 30. Heck, a Republican, has served on the council since 2013.
