In the middle of re-election bids, a handful of lawmakers comfortable they’ll hang on to their posts are engaging in another full-scale campaign effort - to take over the House and Senate leadership jobs when the new terms begin.

Senate President Joel Chaisson and House Speaker Jim Tucker are term-limited.

Lobbying for the votes needed to be House speaker and Senate president is in full swing this summer, even though lawmakers don’t know who will be on the final list of colleagues until after the fall election.

On the list vying for House speaker are: Republicans Hunter Greene, Erich Ponti and Chuck Kleckley; Democrat Jeff Arnold; and independent Joel Robideaux.

Among the names mentioned for Senate president are: Republicans John Alario, Jack Donahue and Danny Martiny and Democrat Ben Nevers.
