Paul A. Salles will become the new president and chief executive officer of the Louisiana Hospital Association with the beginning of 2014.

The LHA announced the decision Monday.

Salles is currently executive vice president of the LHA and president and CEO of the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans.

LHA president and CEO John Matessino is retiring at the end of the year after 33 years with the association.

“I am thrilled that Paul has accepted the offer to become our Chief Executive Officer. His understanding of our membership and deep health policy background gives him a strong foundation upon which to step into this leadership role,” said Stephen F. Wright, president and CEO of CHRISTUS Health of Louisiana, and chair of the LHA.

During the past 10 years, Salles has directed the development of health care policy and reimbursement initiatives on behalf of hospitals in Louisiana and has directed and participated in various political activities at the state and national levels. In addition, Salles also serves as the managing partner of ShareCor LLC, a shared services company jointly owned by the LHA and MHCNO.

Salles holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration in finance from Belhaven College, and a master’s degree in business administration in finance from the University of New Orleans.

The LHA was established in 1926. The association is a non-profit organization representing hospitals and healthcare provider groups across the state.
