The state House and Senate observed moments of silence Monday for former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith, who was killed Saturday night.

State Rep. Helena Moreno, D-New Orleans, called Smith a family man and a leader on and off the field.

Moreno also introduced a condolence resolution that noted Smith was a member of the Saints 2009 Super Bowl championship team, an All-Pro defensive lineman in 2006, a first-round selection in 2004 and a member of the Ohio State University 2002 national championship team.
