Gov. Bobby Jindal congratulated President Barack Obama on Wednesday for his re-election victory.

Obama won a close race Tuesday against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Jindal, a Republican, helped Romney on the campaign trail.

“The long campaign season is now over. I know there are folks who want to analyze the campaign tactics and play Monday morning quarterback about the future of the political parties,” the governor said in a prepared statement issued Wednesday afternoon.

“Here in Louisiana, we will continue to do what we have always done, and that means standing up for our people and doing what we think is right no matter who is president,” Jindal said.

Jindal declined an interview request to talk about the future of the national Republican Party.
