Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson is coming to Louisiana for a New Orleans fundraiser Saturday.

The jazz brunch is at the Palmer Avenue home of nationally-known GOP political consultant Mary Matalin.

A recent poll showed Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, leading the field of potential Republican presidential nominees among Louisiana voters. The Advocate-WWL-TV poll, conducted by Clarus Research Group, surveyed 800 likely voters between Sept. 20 and Sept. 23.

Carson topped New York billionaire Donald Trump, 23 percent to Trump’s 19 percent, among likely Republican primary voters. There is a 3.49 percent margin of error in the poll.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal who continues his presidential campaigning in Iowa was preferred by 3 percent of those polled.

Carson had a fundraising reception in Metairie back in July.
