The lawmaker dubbed the “kissing congressman” plans to make a political comeback, according to the Monroe News Star.
Former U. S. Rep. Vance McAllister told the newspaper he plans to challenge state Sen. Mike Walsworth, R-West Monroe, and that Walsworth has been too aligned to Gov. Bobby Jindal.
“This district needs somebody who hasn’t been in the pocket of a governor who sold out the state to run for president,” McAllister said.
Asked for comment Walsworth said, “We’ll both run on our legislative records.”
Asked on Friday if he was concerned about controversy surrounding McAllister and how it might affect the race the senator said, “I won’t go down that road. I’ll defend my record. I’ll do what I have done. I’ll remind people of that.”
In a huge surprise, political newcomer McAllister won the 5th District congressional seat special election in 2013.
But after a video surfaced that showed him kissing a married member of his congressional staff McAllister badly lost his bid for a full term in Congress in 2014.
