State Rep. Regina Barrow listed health care, education and economic development improvements as her priorities as she announced her bid for the Baton Rouge-based Senate District 15 seat.
Barrow held a news conference Tuesday to officially announce that she will seek the Senate seat held by term-limited Sharon Weston Broome. The district includes the northern part of East Baton Rouge Parish.
“We are out of the gate now,” Barrow said.
Barrow said she will work to fill health care gaps caused by the closure of LSU’s Earl K. Long Medical Center and Baton Rouge General Mid-City’s emergency room. She noted that she organized and chairs a study committee to devise solutions.
In addition, Barrow said she wants to make sure students are up-to-date with technology “so our kids will be able to compete globally” as well as energize an economic development district to bring businessess and jobs to the area.
Barrow, a Democrat, is ending her third and final term in the Louisiana House.
State Rep. Dalton Honore, a Democrat from Baton Rouge, is also running for the Senate seat.
