Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is planning to attend the National Governors Association’s winter conference in Washington, D.C., this weekend.

The conference will be the first meeting of the bi-partisan governors group for Democrat Edwards, who was sworn into office on Jan. 11.

According to the NGA, the weekend’s events will include panel discussions with federal officials and business leaders. One of the topics that will be covered is the nation’s opioid epidemic.

Governors will also meet with President Barack Obama on Monday to discuss priorities. Edwards is expected to be there for that meeting.
