Valentine’s celebrations at the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion will again include a reception honoring the Louisiana Family Forum’s “longest married couple.”

This year’s honorees are Lawrence and Varrie Player of Benton, who have been married 80 years. The couple met in 1925 and got married when he was 21 and she was 15. They have eight living children, 35 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, according to LFF.

The Family Forum is a socially conservative advocacy group with close ties to the Family Research Council and Gov. Bobby Jindal. The group advocates against same-sex marriage, among other positions.

The Governor’s Mansion has served as the site for the “longest married” recognition for the past several years.
