Several Louisiana leaders have responded to news of the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Saturday.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards: “For nearly 30 years, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia served the people of this country honorably. Donna and I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family for their loss, and we thank them for sharing him with the rest of the country during some of the greatest legal challenges in a generation.”

U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson: “I am deeply saddened to learn of Justice Antonin Scalia’s passing. He was a man of deep faith and brilliant intellect who will forever be remembered as one of the greatest conservative thought leaders and defenders of the Constitution who has ever served on the Supreme Court. I considered him a friend and this sad and tragic loss will be felt by everyone who cherishes what is great about America. Jennifer and I offer our prayers and heartfelt condolences to Justice Scalia’s family during this time of deep loss.”
