Judy Moore Vendetto edged out Chris Hester to win the special election for Baton Rouge City Court judge Saturday.
Vendetto captured 52 percent of the vote.
Vendetto, the sister of East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III, had spent two decades as a 19th Judicial District Court law clerk.
Hester, the son of former 19th Judicial District Judge Bob Hester, worked the past eight years as a prosecutor in East Baton Rouge Parish. Both candidates are Republicans.
The City Court Division E judgeship was left vacant by the retirement of City Court Judge Suzan Ponder in June.
