Louisiana House of Representative District 58 candidate Ed Price said his 26 years as a member of the Ascension Parish School board has afforded him “valuable knowledge and experiences” that have prepared him to serve at the state level.

Price, 58, of Gonzales, said he will “bring to this position the same high quality service that I have shown in my position as a member of the Ascension Parish School Board.”

Price has served as president of the School Board for 12 years and was elected in 2007 as the president of the Louisiana School Board Association. He has chaired the LSBA legislative committee and was named the 2010 LSBA School Board member of the year.

“As a public servant, I have kept abreast of the issues that are of serious concern for this district,” he said. Price identified those issues as economic development, infrastructure, drainage, education, healthcare and “the well being of our community with special attention on our senior citizens.”

A native of Darrow and graduate of East Ascension High School and Grambling State University, Price is employed as a supervisor at BASF Corp.

“I have a vested interest in education and I pledge to wholeheartedly support what must be done at the state level to create measure to embrace education,” he said.

Price said a quality education is key to preparing students for a global society.

“District 58 does not compete with neighboring districts or states,” he said. “District t58 competes with a global society. My commitment is to be a part of a catalyst whereby we become or productive.

“Resources level for education must not be under-funded if the quality of the standard of living is to improve for everyone.”

Price has been married to Patsy Jackson Price for 31 years and the couple has one daughter and one grandson. He is a member of First Mount Olive Baptist church of Darrow.
