State Treasurer John Kennedy, one of Louisiana’s most popular Republicans, says that Republican Scott Angelle should endorseU.S. Sen. David Vitter in the governor’s race to prove Angelle’s a real conservative.
“You’re either a conservative or you’re not. Scott needs to step up and tell us where he is,” Kennedy said during an appearance on the Moon Griffon radio show Friday morning.
Angelle, who narrowly came in third in the Oct. 24 gubernatorial primary, has been quiet as the race heads into the Nov. 21 runoff between Vitter and Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards. Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, who came in fourth, crossed party lines to endorse Edwards.
“That’s his right to do so but that tells me that Jay’s not a conservative,” Kennedy said of Dardenne’s endorsement.
Returning to Angelle, Kennedy said: “Let’s get real folks, a non-endorsement is an endorsement. That’s the bottom line … If Scott wants to be president of the RINO club, there’s plenty of room.”
Angelle and Dardenne’s campaigns didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment from The Advocate.
