If there’s strength in numbers, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., must be feeling pretty good about her re-election chances this fall.
Landrieu, a three-term incumbent in a tough struggle to win again, released a list Monday of more than 500 elected officials from across the state — and to some extent, across party lines — who have endorsed her.
The list ranges from Democratic U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond, of New Orleans, to state legislators, mayors, sheriffs, aldermen and police jurors.
As the only remaining Democrat elected statewide, and the only Democratic senator from the Deep South, Landrieu is considered vulnerable by Republicans. They’ve targeted her defeat as a key to their drive to win six Senate seats this fall and add control of the Senate to their majority in the House of Representatives.
