You wanna piece of Britney Spears? John Bel Edwards, a Democrat running for Louisiana governor, may have your ticket.

Backed by Spears’ mom, Lynne, the Edwards campaign is giving one lucky donor a trip to Las Vegas for Britney’s “Piece of Me” show at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. By giving the campaign $50, supporters are entered to win tickets, backstage passes, hotel accommodations and airfare for two. The winner will be announced Sept. 8.

“As a teacher managing a busy classroom, I learned that adding a little lagniappe can motivate to get the job done,” Lynne Spears wrote in an email to Edwards supporters touting the giveaway. The Spears’ are longtime residents of Kentwood, Louisiana.

Sweepstakes-style contests are among the latest trends in political campaigning. The National Journal recently reported on presidential candidates who have gotten in on the act, noting that winners can be subject to hefty tax bills.

Edwards, a state representative from Amite, faces Republicans David Vitter, Scott Angelle and Jay Dardenne in the Oct. 24 election. A Nov. 21 runoff will be held, if needed.

Vitter has won several endorsements from politicians, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and most of Louisiana’s congressional delegation.

On the Louisiana entertainment side, the Robertson family, of Duck Dynasty fame, have been vocal supporters of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s campaign for president, and LSU Football Coach Les Miles recently appeared at a Jindal campaign event.
