McMANUS — Leonard “Skeet” London, an East Feliciana Parish police juror during the 1970s, is running for the District 2 Police Jury seat in the Oct. 22 primary election.

The district includes the McManus area between Clinton and Jackson.

London, 67 and a Democrat, said he brings back to the parish government his experience, knowledge, dedication and service on national, state and local levels. He said he wants to revitalize and move East Feliciana to a new level by involving all voters and citizens.

He said his experience in developing a voting precinct, paving roads, developing community parks and working with other jurors would help in implementing new ideas to improve the parish’s quality of life.

London said that, if elected, he would build a relationship between citizens and community leaders to lead an economic revival and promote industrial growth to give the parish more job opportunities.

Asserting the parish’s subdivision and building codes restrict the use of mobile homes for housing, London called for revising

the codes to fit the parish’s needs.

London said he also would address the issues with the district’s park, property development, support for state institutions, the Council on Aging and development of an industrial park.

He said his experience allows him to have a broad vision for the parish that would put it in position to compete with neighboring parishes and bring growth.
