Physicians and hospitals would have more time to file Medicaid claims for services under a bill that gained final legislative approval Tuesday.

The Louisiana Senate voted 37-0 for the measure which allows health care providers up to 365 days from the dates of service delivery to submit claims.

The state Department of Health and Hospitals had implemented a 180-day claims submission limit.

But provider groups had complained about the shortened period for submitting claims to the insurance companies managing the care of most Medicaid recipients.

Legislators listened approving House Bill 270 sponsored by state Rep. James Armes III, D-Leesville.

The bill now goes to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s desk for action.
