A resolution that seeks a study on the feasibility of building a new bridge across the Mississippi River won Louisiana House approval Monday.

The vote was 79-0.

The measure, House Concurrent Resolution 100, next faces action in the Senate.

House Transportation Committee Chairwoman Karen St. Germain, D-Pierre Part, told the House that a need exists for a new structure between the new Mississippi River bridge and the Sunshine Bridge.

The state has a $12 billion backlog of road and bridge needs.
