A state House panel endorsed a bill Thursday that would set a time limit on petition drives to incorporate new towns.

The Municipal Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee, without objection, approved http://www.legis.la.gov/legis/ViewDocument.aspx?d=879566">House Bill 768 which would provide the same six months that is used in recall petitions.

“There’s no time limit,” said state Rep. Ed Price, D-Gonzales. “It would be out there for years.”

Price assured state Rep. Johnny Berthelot, R-Gonzales, that the legislation would not impact petition drives already underway.

In East Baton Rouge, a petition drive is underway aimed at creating the city of St. George.
