A state House panel endorsed a bill Thursday that would set a time limit on petition drives to incorporate new towns.
The Municipal Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee, without objection, approved House Bill 768 which would provide the same six months that is used in recall petitions.
“There’s no time limit,” said state Rep. Ed Price, D-Gonzales. “It would be out there for years.”
Price assured state Rep. Johnny Berthelot, R-Gonzales, that the legislation would not impact petition drives already underway.
In East Baton Rouge, a petition drive is underway aimed at creating the city of St. George.
