The Louisiana House approved Wednesday afternoon legislation that would close the ninth of 10 state-run charity hospitals.

House members voted 65 to 29 for the Senate-passed concurrent resolution required by law to close hospital facilities.

Under the Jindal administration, the operations of six charities have been contracted to private companies and with this vote, the LSU Huey P. Long Medicial Center in Pineville will be the third public hospital closed. The operations of the Huey P will be transferred to two private hospitals that will take over services.

The only state-run public hospital is Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence.
