Campaign funds could not be used to purchase immovable property and motor vehicles under a bill approved Tuesday by the Louisiana House.

The House voted 92-0 for the measure. House Bill 265 sponsored by state Rep. Greg Miller R-Norco, now heads to the state Senate.

State law prohibits use of campaign funds for anything other than running for public office and the holding of that office.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics had sought legislative guidance on the broad language in the law which led to questionable spending.
