Being a victim of domestic abuse would be grounds for an immediate divorce under legislation approved Tuesday by the Louisiana Senate.
The state Senate voted 39-0 for Senate Bill 292, sponsored by state Sen. J.P, Morrell, D-New Orleans.
Domestic abuse would be added to current grounds of conviction of a felony and proof of adultery, Morrell said.
Morrell said the domestic abuse grounds already exists under covenant marriage laws.
SB292 now heads to the House for debate.
