The Louisiana House voted 101-0 Tuesday morning to accept the Senate’s changes to the main state operating budget bill for the Fiscal Year 2012, beginning on July 1.

House Bill 1, the $26.3 billion state operating budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1, now goes to Gov. Bobby Jindal.

“We have an instrument today that meets our needs, does not meet our wants,” said state Rep. Jim Fannin, D-Jonesboro and the budget bill’s sponsor.

The state spending plan now contains far less one-time money than the governor proposed using to deal with a $1.6 billion shortfall in the upcoming fiscal year.

Instead of selling prisons or shrinking state workers’ pay, legislators used hurricane cost reimbursement from the federal government and other dollars.
