The Louisiana House advanced two measures Tuesday aimed at creating neighborhood crime prevention districts in Baton Rouge.
The House voted 91-1 in favor of House Bill 289 to create the Tara Crime Prevention and Neighborhood Improvement District. Residents would be charged $100 a year per parcel. The fee could gradually increase to a maximum of $200 annually.
The House also voted 92-0 in favor of House Bill 455. The bill would change the name of the Wedgewood Civic Association District to the Wedgewood Crime Prevention and Improvement District. No mention is made in the legislation of a neighborhood fee.
Both bills now move to the state Senate for debate.
