The state Senate chamber turned into a graduation hall Thursday for 46 new state troopers.
Instead of caps and gowns, the cadets wore their new, blue uniforms. Gov. Bobby Jindal gave the commencement address and swore them into service.
“I guess you start Monday,” Jindal said afterward to one trooper.
Budget cuts have prevented the state from holding a training academy for several years. Of the 61 cadets who started the academy in January, 46 graduated.
“These new troopers, and all state troopers throughout our state, are the men and the women who do not put themselves first. They rush into danger when most people are running away from it,” the governor said.
