Rain, rain and more rain in the forecast prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood watch for Baton Rouge until 7 p.m. and flash flood warnings for many surrounding parishes until this afternoon.

Don’t drive through flooded areas because roadway edges and obstructions in the road can’t be seen and, just two feet of running water can carry away most vehicles, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood watches could be extended as additional rounds of rain are expected for Wednesday, Thursday and even Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch means that weather conditions could produce flash flood conditions while a flash flood warning means flooding is either already happening or expected to happen soon.
