The National Hurricane Center is reporting a low pressure area has formed over the Yucatan Peninsula.

The disturbance is producing showers and thunderstorms and gusty winds and is expected to move northward, into the southern Gulf of Mexico on Sunday.

The expected track is north and there is potential for the storm to become a tropical cyclone, according to a NHC storm update.

Formation for the next 48 hours is still low, at 30%.
