The Animal Planet airs “Treehouse Masters,” and arboreal archetect Pete Nelson’s expertise in showcasing these structures. He has incorporated his exploits into a book, appropriately titled “Treehouse.”
Lutz’s Construction Co. had their shop and dump site adjacent to our neighborhood, providing scrap wood reused by us for soap box derbies and a treehouse.
Our treehouse included wood strips nailed to a maple tree, providing a ladder to the top. There were no construction “plans,” just a bunch of kids pounding nails into boards and the poor tree.
The treehouse test included a thundershower. What wasn’t tested was the wind-weight scenario. Kids jammed into a tree house was followed by cracking and crashing as the tree house turned into a ground house.
