Interstate 10 west on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge from Baton Rouge to Lafayette is open, State Police reported.

I-10 east is still closed, and U.S. 190 is moving slowly in both directions.

A fiery crash on the Basin Bridge Friday closed the 20-mile portion of Interstate 10 in both directions as authorities worked to clean up road debris on the bridge, State Police said.

The crash, sometime about 5 p.m. Friday, left one person dead, said Master Trooper Greg Marchand, a State Police spokesman.

The crash forced authorities to close all four lanes of the interstate in both directions, having drivers trapped on the bridge back up to the nearest crossover, Marchand said.

Once closed, authorities diverted traffic in both directions from I-10 onto U.S. 190. State Police, with the help of local police agencies, was facilitating the increased load of cars Friday night, Marchand said.

The crash happened at mile post 126.8, which is several miles west of Henderson. All four trucks involved in the crash caught fire, Marchand said.

Police were waiting to release the name of the person killed in the crash pending notification of his or her family.
