A 31-year-old woman from Transylvania died Monday morning after her 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ran of La. 10 and struck some trees in West Feliciana Parish, Louisana State Police announced in an email.

Not wearing a seat belt, Kimberly M. Mahoney was ejected from her Trailblazer and suffered fatal injuries as a result, Trooper Jared L. Sandifer said. “Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.”

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Mahoney was westbound on La. 10, east of U.S. 61, when she first ran off the road to the right, then over corrected, causing the Trailblazer to leave the road to the left, Sandifer said.

A toxicology sample was taken from Mahoney and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, he said.
