Throngs of people headed to see Republican presidential candidate and reality TV star Donald Trump in downtown Baton Rouge have jammed traffic and packed garages.

Parking spots in the River Center garages downtown were full as of 5:40 p.m. Thursday as crowds headed to the convention center for Trump’s 7 p.m. rally, Sgt. Don Coppola, spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department said.

Coppola said traffic on Government Street is backed up and police are recommending anyone headed downtown use alternate exits, including North or Convention streets, and look for street parking.
