Athletic banquet tickets go on sale
Denham Springs High School begins selling tickets Monday for the DSHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet.
Tickets will be on sale at the school office.
The event, hosted by the Denham Springs Athletic Association, is set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at Forest Grove Plantation in Denham Springs.
Tickets cost $75 per person and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Proceeds will be used to defray the cost of the banquet and for the direct support of DSHS athletics.
Lunch with candidates
The Livingston Parish Republican Women will hold a meet-and-greet luncheon Wednesday for Republican candidates and potential candidates for statewide offices in the Oct. 22 election.
Each candidate will be given a few minutes to speak.
The meeting will be held at the Hampton Inn, 201 Rushing Road, Denham Springs.
A buffet lunch, which will start at 11:15 a.m., will be catered by Don’s Seafood Hut.
The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m.
The Main Branch of the Livingston Parish Library will host a Genealogy Workshop at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The workshop will feature Clark Forrest, president of the Edward Livingston Historical Association, demonstrating how to find genealogy information using online resources.

VFW travels to Branson
The VFW Post 7017 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a seven-day and six-night show trip to Branson, Mo.
The trip, which will begin Oct. 6, will include seven shows and a cruise on Table Rock Lake.
Cost of the trip is $609.

Club sets Garfish Rodeo
The first Garfish Rodeo will be held Aug. 6-7 at the Black Lake Club in southeastern Livingston Parish.
Registration is open, but anglers may also register on Saturday.
There will be live music and free food Saturday and Sunday, said Deborah Marchand, who is helping to organize the event.
The weigh-in will be at noon on Sunday.
There will be prizes for the biggest gar, most total gar and for the biggest trash fish.
The entry fee is $25 per person, and $5 to register for the trash fish competition.
The Main Branch of the Livingston Parish Library will host a Steampunk Workshop for teens at 6 p.m. Aug. 25.
Teens are invited to help make steampunk jewelry - belts and pins - out of recycled materials such as bicycle inner tubes, nuts, washers, and other items.
