Republican David Vitter is a U.S. senator from Louisiana who serves as chairman of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.
Vitter is also a candidate for governor in the fall election.
It just so happens that Vitter has held 10 "field hearings" of the committee in cities across Louisiana this year, as well as two others by another committee he leads -- all at taxpayer expense, the Bloomberg news service reports. The small-business committee has met more often in Louisaina than in Washington, and the dozen field hearings under Vitter's direction account for nearly half of all such Senate hearings nationwide this year.
Coincidence? A Vitter aide says there's nothing in the hearings that varies from standard Vitter procedure. But others aren't so sure, the report says.
