With 85 days remaining in Hurricane Season, 2011, the season may end earlier. Ophelia and Philippe are in the Atlantic marking 16 named storms. By average, the locations for tropical storm development in October include: The Bay of Campeche in the toe of the Gulf, surrounding the Yucatan; the western Caribbean; the coast of Africa through the Leeward, Windward Islands. Of interest to our area, November storm origins are confined to the eastern Gulf of Mexico across Florida and the eastern coast of Florida. A determining factor that shuts down development in the Gulf of Mexico are frontal passages and it looks like we’ll get a strong one early Saturday morning with cool north winds, and lower humidity. The front will also lower Gulf water temperatures.

Fastcast: Warm.
