Whoever came up with the grading system for our schools deserves an F, or at least a D. Our schools deserve better.

A school in a rather affluent area can have all its gifted and its talented children removed by their parents from a particular school, which has a number of autistic or other mentally or physically handicapped children enrolled. The gifted and talented children can be transferred to a “better” school, leaving only poorly performing children, and thus a guarantee of a D- or an F. It’s unfair to the teachers, the children and the parents.

I’m a strong advocate of school choice, but when it can result in branding an otherwise good school as being a “bad” school, the plan needs to be changed.
